Buffalo Wild Wings was only open a couple days at the Viewmont Mall in Dickson City when we decided we needed to check it out. In fact, there’s been a couple of them popping up in the area, such as one in Wilkes-Barre, which The Wing Men got interviewed for in the Citizen’s Voice (a little shameless self-promotion). With it being the first wing night after the grand opening, we knew it was going to be crazy busy. The waitress told us it would be an hour, so we perused the mall for 30 minutes before heading back to be safe. We were only waiting an additional 5 minutes when our buzzer went off. It was a pleasant surprise. Honestly, even with it being so busy, the service was great. They were on top of their game, that’s for sure. The restaurant is a sports-themed place with beer and wings being the focus for food. B Dubs, as the kids call it, does have a pretty good selection of beer if you’re into that sort of thing. The way they run things though is awesome. They have a person called a captain who walks around and provides you with any wing sauce and/or beer sample you like. You can play handheld table games, such as poker, with other people in the restaurant. They even give you the ability to put a sporting event of your choice on one of the many TVs they have around the restaurant. We tried getting the Wheel of Fortune, but unfortunately, that wouldn’t fly here. I mean, if that isn’t the greatest American sport, I don’t know what is. Regardless, the service was still outstanding and our food came out super quick. We were always being asked how we were doing and if we needed any more food or drink. They were well prepared for the crowd. Oh, and there are moist towelettes right at the table, which is always a nice touch.

On wing night, the wings are 65 cents each. This is one of the higher wing prices we have seen. The wings are only around average size. B Dubs does allow you to get orders of 4 on wing night, which gives you a bit more bang for your buck.

With B Dubs being known for their wings, I knew they were going to have some good options for wings. They did not disappoint. All the traditional flavors were here, along with a bunch of interesting sauces. They even have a couple of unique dry rubs that will require a second visit to enjoy. You are bound to find something you like. I suggest you wait for a captain to bring you a couple of samples before you make your choice so you can choose a flavor you know you would enjoy.

We had a group with us this time, so we tried a bunch of different flavors. The wings overall are not that crunchy. I know some people prefer that crunchier wing, but I was fine with they way they came out. It did seem like the sauce was drying out a bit, as though they were sitting out. This may have been their strategy for dealing with the crowd. The Wild is an amped up traditional hot sauce. I found these wings to have the right level of spiciness for being pegged as a hotter wing. They provided a great flavor with that spice that I love. The Asian Zing were another good wing here. It’s like a Sweet and Tangy sauce with a slight kick in the background. I was a bit let down by the Teriyaki sauce. B Dubs makes theirs a bit stickier, but I felt like it was lacking in that traditional Teriyaki flavor I go crazy for. The last wing I ordered was the Thai Curry. This was probably my favorite wing here. It’s a more unique, thick sauce with curry and Thai Spices. I highly suggest these wings. We tried a sample of the Buffalo dry rub, and I kind of wish I got it on a wing. The flavor was good and I’m curious to see how it would be on a wing. I will probably order these on a second visit. I tried one of the Parmesan Garlic wing, which has a strong cheesy taste with a hint of garlic. These were another wing at the top of my gotta try again list. Overall, the flavors were a bit hit or miss. If you find the ones you like though, you most definitely will not be disappointed.

It finally happened, a Buffalo Wild Wings has been placed in our greater NEPA area… besides the one in Wilkes Barre. Of course the Wingmen need to check the place out. We went on their first wing night they had in in Dickson City and it was very busy. You could see people waiting outside the mall. We knew we would wait and we did but only for a half hour. It wasn’t bad at all. We walked around the mall and window shopped something I’m sure the Viewmont brass was counting on when brining the chain wing restaurant. When we finally were seated, we were happy. It was exciting. You could feel an energy flowing through the place. From the customers to the ever moving staff, there was a buzz in there that not many places can replicate. Our server was very and nice and helpful. We actually had like 3 different servers at our table because we sampled sauces, which require a whole different person to care of. They had a about 30 different drafts to choose from and several mixed drink combinations. Also, they had a holder of moist towelets on each table, which is something we never saw before. Buffalo Wild Wings certainly caters to the sport watching crowd because they have nearly 50 TVs throughout the place. It was a fun experience.

For a wing night, you don’t really get the sense that you got too much of a deal. Wings on Tuesdays are 65 cents a wing. That’s not very good at all. Again, maybe it’s because they are a chain restaurant that they have figured that’s the lowest they can go. I can’t ultimately say. I just know that we have been to many places that are over 50 cents a wing. They were a descent size however, so you get that.

    Wing Flavors: 8

I’m giving them an 8 because they certainly had a large selection of wings and a unique listing of flavors. But I was actually hoping for some off the wall flavors that you get at non-chain restaurant places. I wanted something that I can look at and be like, “that sounds really interesting.” Maybe because I’ve seen some many wing places and different wing flavors that I crave super interesting wing combinations but it’s how I feel. But they do have many flavors that you can check out above.

I ordered their hot, spicy garlic, mango habanero and parmesan garlic. Their hot were very good. They had a good spice to them but also, surprisingly, had that NEPA valley wing sauce taste, which is butter based and loaded with hot sauce. They were quite solid. The spicy garlic was just alright. I expected more garlic to them but I think they just used garlic powder. I’d much rather a place use real garlic or even minced garlic in situations like this. The mango habanero were very good. This is a flavor that is getting more traction in the wing world and that’s because it has many elements that everyone wants. It has the spice and heat then it gets cooled down from the sweetness from the mango. In this particular case the mango was featured more so than in others of the same style. They were extremely tasty. Finally, the best I had out of the bunch was the parmesan garlic. They sound ordinary but they are anything but. These wings actually have a garlic sauce not just garlic added them. The sauce is delicious and has herbs in it as well. Adding the parmesan cheese to this saice elevates it to a top tier status for me.
