This is our first time at Classics Bar & Grill, but not our first time to this location. If you’ve been to Vaudeville Inn in the past, then you know what to expect with the set-up of Classics as Classics has taken over the location and kept much of the outside and indoor set-up the same, including a square bar and plenty of seating in different rooms. Classics has changed the theme up a bit to be music focused. They have also updated the lighting to be more hip around the bar, including light-up menus, which I thought was cool, but I’m a sucker for any sort of lighting effects. We arrived at 6 and were the only ones there. In fact, even by the time we left at about 7:30, there was only one other couple that arrived. Our waitress was nice and obviously our order was taken pretty fast, considering we were the only ones in the joint. Even though we were the only ones there, it did take longer than expected for the wings.

It’s nice to see that Classics offers a wing night, which, at the time of our visit, was a Wednesday night. They offer 80 cents wings on their wing night with minimum orders of 6. It’s difficult to gauge good wing prices as they tend to be all over the place. Basing strictly on size though, Classics offers an average size wing. I had no problem taking down my usual 18.

Classics offers a good selection of wing sauces on the menu, including classics (pun intended) such as Mild, Hot, Buffalo Ranch, and Hot Garlic. They also venture outside the box with options on their menu like Pickle and Sriracha Garlic. Be sure to keep an eye out on boards around the bar or placards on the bar top as they also offer options that don’t appear on the menu. On our visit, they were offering Amori wing sauce and Mike’s Hard Wing sauce. Unfortunately, our bartender let us know they were out of both those flavors. Also, be sure to ask your waitress/bartender for any other flavors because they also offered some dry rubs that weren’t listed anywhere. For our visit, those options were Old Bay dry rub and Honey Mustard dry rub.

This is the first time I can recall seeing a Pickle sauce option as a wing flavor, so I knew immediately it was one I had to try. I was expecting a white, creamy sauce with dill and pickle flavor, so I was surprised when the sauce was red. I believe they use their hot sauce base with maybe some dill and pickle flavoring. I started with these wings and didn’t get much of the pickle flavor, but when I returned to them later after my other wings, it was much more pronounced, likely because I needed another sauce to really draw attention to the pickle flavor. I liked the flavor, but wish they were more pickle forward. I also ordered their regular Hot. The Hot was a really red sauce with lots of cayenne pepperiness. While I enjoyed the flavor, it may not be for those who don’t like their wings too spicy. The Buffalo Ranch was a nice orange color that I am a sucker for. They had an OK balance of buffalo sauce and ranch, although I wish the ranch came through more. In fact, I feel as though their base Hot sauce is so strong, it tends to overwhelm other sauces it mixes with, such as the Pickle and Buffalo Ranch. Overall, all the wings were nicely cooked, with a good amount of crisp to them.

Chill. That’s the vibe that flows through Classics. Chill. No this isn’t going to turn into cold puns. I’m Mr. Freeze from Batman and Robin. But it can’t be said enough; the atmosphere at Classics, located in West Scranton, is very relaxed and soothing.

There are a few TVs up on the walls along with posters of bands, some football memorabilia, and a North American Grappling Association championship belt. I assume that’s the owners. Kind of a hodgepodge of stuff but it works. I have a steadfast rule about not mixing it up with grapplers or wrestlers. They know leverage and they can make you hurt without throwing a single hand. So, they can have whatever they’s like on their walls.

There are several rooms at Classics. There is the front bar room. Then there is a backroom with seating. Finally, there’s a side room that has a pool table and a big TV on the wall. Gives me the impression that it’s someone’s cool basement.

We sat at the bar. Our server was very nice, diligent, and personable. She joined in on some of our banter and made sure we had everything we needed.

The menus had lights in them. That really stood out to me. Not every day you get lights in your menu.

At Classics, wings are 80 cents a wing on wing night, which is Wednesday. We went on Wednesday because we are a couple of geniuses.

I think 80 cents a wing, given the state of affairs in society such as the price of fry oil, is fine.

The size of the wings was also pretty good. Not out of this world big but also not little chicken nuggets either. I think you can get whatever your standard order is and be full on your way out.

You can order in orders of six so go right ahead and get a plethora of flavors.

It was a really good showing in terms of wing flavors and uniqueness at Classics. They have 11 flavors on their menu. But, they also have two other rotating flavors that I think they change every week. Sadly, they were fresh out of one of them. Bummer, but at least they had Old Bay.

You can get flavors such as sriracha garlic, pickle(if you’re into that kind of thing), tangy teriyaki, and garlic Caesar parm. They also have most of the classic(get it?) flavors that you normally see at wing joints.

They have a flavor called Buffalo ranch as well. I think there’s room for growth because you can pretty much mix anything with ranch and it’s going to probably be a banger.

A very solid group of wings is what I had.

First, I had the caesar and garlic parm. Something about that combination of flavors just really does it for me. I don’t eat salad so I never have Caesar dressing. I only get it on wings and let me tell you, it’s good stuff. Then you mix it with garlic and parmesan cheese and you have a trio that’s right up there with Aikman, Smith, and Irvin or Durant, Irving, and Harden.

Next, there was the Old Bay dry rub. There was a copious amount of Old Bay seasoning on the wings. No spots where the wing was bare. Can’t stand it when that happens.

Lastly, there was the sriracha garlic. What stood out was how red these wings were. It was amazing. I’ve never seen something so red. Fire trucks, red crayons, nothing was redder than these wings. Oh, and they were pretty good to eat as well. I thought, based on that redness, they were going to be hotter but they weren’t. There was really good flavor and there was a solid amount of garlic in there.
