  We decided to make a trip to Slingshots after they won hottest wing at the Wings at the Waterpark Event. The place, which is located in Moscow, has been operational for roughly a year. It is very clean inside and up-to-date. It’s not a huge place. One half is dedicated to the bar and the other half, divided by a short wall, is dedicated to dining. There are darts and pool tables to keep you busy. While the place is nice, our service on this visit was not. We checked their website prior to going and we saw it was wing and clam night. Reading this, you would think it means wing night and clam night. That is not the case. I understand this may have been our fault in making assumptions, but who has a wing and clam night. It is new to me. After the waitress explained the deal to us, which was ten wings and a dozen clams for 6 dollars, we opted to just get wings. I personally am not the biggest fan of clams. She said we could just get the wings for 50 cents each, so we placed our orders of five and thought nothing of it. Well, about 5 minutes later, after the waitress was in the kitchen, she says they can’t do the wings for 50 cents each and we have to get clams for the deal. We didn’t want the clams, so we opted for wings only. In hindsight, it would have been better just to get the clams because it would have cost 6 dollars instead of $7.95 for the wings alone. See, I didn’t want them to throw out a dozen clams just to get the deal. You would think that they would have given us the 10 wings for 6 dollars, but no; it was not an idea that crossed their minds. Maybe we could have even said we will get the wing and clams deal, but to hold the clams. Who knows how that would have flown though. On top of that, she advised us we couldn’t place orders of 5 on this wing and clam night. So we put our heads together to get a good assortment of orders of ten. We’ve dealt with this before. So after that little hiccup, we waited for our wings. And waited we did. It took quite a while for the wings to come out. I understand there were other people there, but it wasn’t busy enough to warrant that long of a wait. When the wings finally came out, they forgot one of the flavors we chose. I told the waitress this and she acted like they would be right out. So, we ate all the wings that were served to us and waited another 15 minutes or so. The forgotten order still did not arrive. We told the waitress just to forget the order and we would take our check. At this point, we were there much longer than we wanted to be. So, she brings us our check along with the lost order of wings. We didn’t want to raise a stink, so we just took them to go. Most places would own up to their mistake and just take the order off the bill. I would have even been fine with them keeping that last order and not charging us for them. No, that didn’t even cross their minds. So, I asked the check to be split between the three of us. The waitress said it would be fine. About 5 minutes later, she comes back and says that can’t be done either. I mean, all she has to do it get a calculator, divide by three (that’s how many of us there were), and there’s what you charge each person. Apparently, this is something that couldn’t be done either. So we all just paid in cash and got out of there. Honestly, I walked into this place with super high hopes for some great wings, but left annoyed.

  On their actual wing night, which we found out was on Sunday, the wings are $0.50 each. On Wing and Clam night, the deal is $6.00. We had to pay full price for our wings though. An order of 10 will cost $7.95. The wings themselves were slightly above average for wings. They were meaty and will fill you up.

  The options of flavors were average. They had a decent assortment of your traditional flavors, with some features wings of the week. The wing that won hottest wing at the wingfest wasn’t on the menu, but you can still ask for it to be made.

  Even though we had a bad experience as mentioned above, the wings themselves were very tasty. Our group ordered regular Hot, Engine 57 Hot, Teriyaki, Honey Mustard, and Hot Caesar Parm. I didn’t try the hot because that was the lost order that we had to take to go. My friends took it home, so I can’t review that one. The Engine 57 Hot were a spiced up version of the hot. This is how an Extra hot should be. It wasn’t overwhelming with the heat and the level of spice mixed pleasantly with the flavor. The Teriyaki wings were covered with a thicker, sticky, brown sauce that had a good saltiness to it that I love in Teriyaki wings. I’m not crazy for Honey Mustard, and these were par for the course. If you enjoy Honey Mustard, you will like these wings. It had a hint of sweetness mixed with the mustard flavor on the wing. The sauce was a thicker, yellow-light brown sauce. I took one of these wings and mixed it with the Engine 57 sauce, which I thought enhanced the flavor a bit. The Hot Caesar Parm were delicious. It had some of the hot sauce mixed with Caesar seasoning and parmesan cheese. The combination was perfectly blended to round out a great tasting wing. All the wings came drenched in their sauces, which I love.

  Slingshots is a relatively new player in the world of wings in the greater NEPA region. They’re located in Moscow and no, I will not make any kind of reference to Russia. Slingshots is equipped with a full bar and also has about 15 tables inside. There is a pool table and multiple dart boards on the walls but I’m not sure if they are playable because several of them are located hanging over tables. The atmosphere was one where you would have no problem bringing your family in for a meal. With TVs up at the bar, it would be a good place to catch a ballgame. We planned on coming to their wing night but we mistakenly came on their wing and clam night. Their wing night is surprisingly on Sunday. I believe that is the only place we’ve come across with a Sunday wing night. This means there is only a special when you order wings and clams. We didn’t have a taste for seafood so we didn’t get the clams or the special price on wings if we got that special. Since this was the case, we were unable to get our wings in orders of 5, so we had to order them in orders of tens. I wish we asked what would happen if we instead substituted the clams for wings. Oh well. We had an extra person with us so ordered 50 wings of 5 different flavors. But the last flavor, hot, did not come out until 25 minutes after we ate the first 40. Our server, who was very nice and diligent to our table and seemingly the entire place, explained that they had to mix the sauce thus taking longer.

  I didn’t really know what to score this because we paid for non-wing night prices. It was 10 for 7.95. They were decently sized however. The kind of size where I ultimately say, I’ve had bigger and I’ve had smaller.

  They get a 5 for having the standard wing flavors that just about all places that have wings normally have. They have mild, hot, bbq, honey mustard, teriyaki and garlic on their menu. They also have hot Caesar parmesan and mild Caesar parmesan on a sheet located inside the menu. Finally, located on a banner located on the railing before you walk into the place and hanging from the ceiling they have their 1st place winning Engine 57 hot wing, which won the award for hottest wing at the Wings at the Waterpark Wing Festival. It be cool if they tried out some different variety of flavors.

  We got honey mustard, teriyaki, hot Caesar parmesan hot and Engine 57. The honey mustard was fine. I believe they used yellow mustard for me, I rather have spicy brown but that’s a preference thing. Teriyaki was good as well. We’ve said it several times; it’s hard to have a bad teriyaki wing. It’s not like anyone is making the sauce from scratch, so of course it’s going to work. Hot Caesar parmesan I thought could have been better. To me, it was kind of bland. It just needed a little more of everything of what the flavor represents. The hot we didn’t eat there. We got them to go. Finally, the Engine 57. We had them at the wing fest where they won the award for hottest wing. Maybe it’s because we already had them and I knew what to expect but I thought they were hotter at the festival. They were tasty I must say. That spice that only a quality hot sauce can deliver was certainly there. I promise if you’ve never had them before, you will find them pretty hot.
