This is our second time in Peanut Bar and it was very reminiscent of our first visit. It is very much a Carbondale townie bar. As we entered, it seemed we had stares from every patron. The place is made up of a large, square, wraparound bar with plenty of dining tables around it. Unfortunately many of the tables were taken, so we had to sit in a sort of side area with dining tables. The place as a whole is nice, well lit and clean. The bartender/waitress did her job, but wasn’t overly amicable to us. We got all our food and drinks in a timely manner, so I can’t really complain. This is another place that doesn’t accept cards, which surprised me because it seems pretty up to date. Also, they have bottled water instead of tap water. Personally, I prefer tap water and I don’t like how that’s not an option. I may be nitpicky with it, but we are a nation with clean tap water, so just have that option. I know some people prefer the bottle water, but not me.

They had some pretty hefty wings at the Peanut Bar. I could hardly finish my 15 that I normally get. I left feeling very full.

They don’t offer a crazy amount of flavors, but I do like that they offer a Garbage, Teriyaki, and House sauce. The Garbage is a mix of all the flavors. It sounds like it could be gross, but I will address that in the Taste section. The House sauce is a mix of the Hot, Bleu Cheese, and garlic.

    Wing Taste (x2): 9

As a group, we got a good variety of flavors. The Hot sauce is a nice mixture of flavors. It was nothing outstanding, but it had a good spice to it. The Ranch wings were quite tasty. It was mostly ranch with what appeared to be some Hot sauce mixed in. I liked the stronger ranch taste in these wings. I was a bit let down by my Teriyaki. That salty, Teriyaki flavor was there, but the sauce was so thin that it ran right off the wings. I wish they thickened it up a bit to have more of the sauce remain on the wing itself and not in my basket. The Garbage were surprisingly very good. It sounds like a mix of all the flavors would not be good tasting at all, but just the opposite is true. It was actually my favorite flavor there. No part of it was overwhelming. Somehow, the flavors combined to make a complicated, but delicious wing. The House were great ,too. I’m becoming a huge fan of the combination of Hot, garlic and bleu cheese.

The Peanut Bar, located in Carbondale, is a bar that always got a bad rap as I grew up. I have to say nothing can be farther than the truth. It is very clean, has plenty of seating and has a polite staff. There are tvs, so you can watch a game if need be and it also has darts and a pool table so you do have options. Our waitress was nice and the person who actually brought out our wings was very helpful. You may get the feeling when, when you walk in, that everyone knows you don’t go there very often, which I don’t. But that will last for only a few seconds because everyone who was there at least last night were alright in my book. You could really put in a quality shift in this place.

The wings are a real good size and for 40 cents, you should walk away full. You may find a few that aren’t as big as the real big ones but most are large.

    Wing Flavors: 8

With 10 flavors to choose from, the biggest reason why I rated it an 8 is because the variety is stellar. You can get mild, hot, hot or mild garlic, house sauce(hot, garlic, bleu cheese), honey mustard, BBQ, teriyaki, hot ranch and garbage(all sauces mixed together).

    Wing Taste (x2): 9

I ordered hot garlic, house sauce, hot ranch and garbage. The hot garlic were not real hot but they did have a good amount of garlic on them and that combination made for a great taste. The house sauce, which I said earlier, is hot, garlic and bleu cheese mixed into 1 was fantastic. The bleu cheese made it nice and creamy and you still had the flavor of the hot sauce balanced it out. The hot ranch had a nice spice to them that seemed to be lacking from the hot garlic. And like the house sauce the addition of the ranch added a creaminess to them that I know you will enjoy. Lastly, the garbage wings are real interesting. They take all of their sauces and combine them all to make 1. You would think that could be a recipe for disaster but it actually works real well. If you take time to actually try and pinpoint each flavor you can actually do it. Go and try it!
