  • Tipsy Turtle Podcast Review - 05/11/15

    We made a return trip to the Tipsy Turtle, so we recorded a lovely little podcast review for you. Check it out at the bottom of this post.

    The Tipsy Turtle is a small diamond in the rough right outside of Pittston. The inside was extremely clean, with wood paneling on the walls. I don’t know why, but I just think wood paneling is attractive and makes a place look upscale without seeming to overly flashy. The whole place is fairly open with the bar and restaurant right next to each other. They had great beer on tap, featuring local and craft breweries. The waitresses were nice and attentive. We had a large group, and there were no issues with our orders. In fact, the waitress was laughing at our jokes, willing to join in on our stupidity.

    The wing night price is $5.49 a pound. Every pound we got came in exactly orders of ten. How convenient. It’d be much easier to say the wings were $0.55 each. Most of the wings were absolutely gigantic, but there were a couple of skimpy ones. Compared to other prices of wing nights, this place is up there as the highest.


    Wing Flavors: 9

    Not only are there plenty of flavors, but a very interesting assortment. There were flavors I have never heard of elsewhere. Mango Habanero and PB&J really piqued my interest. The only thing stopping this from a perfect ten is that there are certainly a lot of flavors, but many of them are just combinations of each other, or a slight variation.

    I ordered PB&J, Mango Habanero, Hot, and Dry Cajun. We went to the Tipsy Turtle as a large group, so there was a lot of trading going on. The PB&J were definitely interesting. The peanut was the first flavor that hits your taste buds, with a very slight sweet flavor. I did try the kicked-up PB&J, and I would have to say go with this instead. It still had that great peanut taste, but with a nice spice to make everything nice. I’m a sucker for peanut sauces. The Mango Habanero was much sweeter than I expected, almost like a jam or a jelly. There wasn’t much spiciness to it, which I thought there would be. Also, the sauce was very light, running off of the wing before the end of the meal. The last couple Mango Habanero wings didn’t have much taste as a result. The Hot was a pleasant surprise. It was more than your typical Hot, with some extra seasoning to give it a little kick. The Dry Cajun was pretty bland. I always order a dry rub wing when I see it, and I’m always let down by the taste. It was definitely Cajun, but not flavorful enough. On the other hand, the Wet Cajun would be the way to go. It had the same Cajun flavor, but in a thick, tasty Hot sauce. I also tried the Parmesan Garlic, and this is where it’s at. It was a perfect mixture of Parmesan cheese and garlic flavoring in their already delicious hot sauce.

    The Tipsy Turtle is a fun place to go for wings or for a beverage. To me, the place just had a good vibe to it. Other patrons were having a good time and the large group we had felt comfortable to the point where we were a bit loud at times. No one cared that we were like that, which was nice. Our waitress was solid and had a steel-trap memory, not missing anyone’s order.

    The wings were pretty big but for 5.49 a pound that comes to 55 cents a wing. Now I don’t think that’s a great deal for a wing night. You’ll leave the restaurant full however.


    Wing Flavors: 9

    There are so many different and unusual flavors of wings. There was one even called peanut butter and jelly. There were about 35 different wing flavors. That’s what I call great variety.


    Wing Taste (x2): 7

    The wings I got were hot, parmesan garlic, wet Cajun and kicked up PBJ. Garlic parmesan was the best wing out of the whole lot of them. The hot and wet Cajun were tangy and on-point with what they were supposed to be. Personally, I am not that into peanut flavored sauce. But if you are then you will probably enjoy them. Solid wings are what you are going to get with any choice you make.
